Gaze by KelseyBeckett Gaze by KelseyBeckett
Let me start by saying I am VERY hesitant to post these pictures.
This collection took me months to complete; they're pretty much my babies, and I want to share them with you.
As for how long they'll be up, I'm not sure. I'm very nervous!

PLEASE do not copy/ steal my work. ;__; <33

All are done with Prismacolor colored pencils.

Lemme hear what you think they mean <33

What do you use for the outline before using the Prismas? :)
KelseyBeckett Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2008  Professional Traditional Artist
I use a white charcoal pencil then go over it with the prisma's : ) The charcoal erases away, but the colored pencil doesn't.

Oooh.. well I really like the effect of the white charcoal you leave! :D Thanks for responding, I think your art is beautiful.

I just want to start out by saying this is a stunning piece! I love how you chose black paper for this picture it makes the girl and stars stand out making this piece that much bolder!

As for what I think it is... heres my guess. It looks as though shes holding a jewlery box, or maybe a music box? And it seems as though the box is bringing back a memory to her, or a story. As for the star in a cage I'm guessing it's suppose to be the north star and it's trapped in a lamp because it was used by the slaves to help lead them to freedom(like a light/lamp in the dark is used to guide you). So I'm guessing the box is an heirloom that was given to her from a family member and it helps tell the story of her families past and how they got to where they are.
Hope I'm not completely off!

Beautiful drawing. It almost looks like a painting but it's a little too crisp for paint.

It looks to me like she's wishing she were somewhere else; like she wants to live in the world of the book she's reading.

i must say that this is one of my favorites in these works! (btw, i've been so busy interpreting them, i may have forgotten to compliment you!) these are all quite lovely! and the workmanship that went into them is astounding!

i really love the contrast of colors in this one! the way the lights shine from this just fills me with a feeling of hope! i'm assuming you used a dark paper for this? poor you if you didn't! filling in all that dark space must have been killer to your hands!

i cannot make a complete interpretation of this one (besides the "hope" i mentioned above), sadly (but maybe you're tired of reading them!). i wish i knew what the text at the top left corner said, and it is also unclear to me what she holds in her lap!

wow, i really like this one, you did a fantastic job with the lighting, it's really realistic <3

wishing on a star, a hesitant wish.. a wish that might never come true.. but you look to that star anyways almost in adoration and admiration. i love all your pieces but i dont have time to comment right now on them..

I really love this one. <3 The color scheme is beautiful, while still all staying generally blue-ish.
